No Child Left Behind Leadership Summits

The U.S. Department of Education seeks to disseminate widely high quality research, guidance, and implementation strategies so that schools, districts and States can meet the high student achievement standards required by the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. The No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) is the Federal Government’s primary vehicle for improving student achievement in our nation’s schools.

Through its sponsorship of the Secretary’s No Child Left Behind Leadership Summits, the U.S. Department of Education will provide technical assistance to state and local education leaders on how technology can assist the implementation of NCLB. The Department of Education will sponsor three such summits in the Spring and Summer of 2004. The goals of these summits are to:

  • Provide states and districts with the foundational knowledge and tools to implement NCLB successfully.
  • Allow state and district-level team participants an opportunity to work together to develop an understanding of effective ways to implement NCLB using technology solutions.
  • Build state and districts’ capacity for promoting and sustaining effective professional development in the selection and effective use of technology tools.
  • Engage states and large school districts as partners in a national movement to improve academic achievement for all students through the appropriate and effective use of technology.

The Secretary’s NCLB Leadership Summits offer the U.S. Department of Education a unique opportunity to communicate with state and local education leaders and offer insight into how emerging technologies can help schools meet the requirements of NCLB.
